Check Presentation to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans:

On May 11, 2010, DWG group members Rose Calkins, Natalia Toreeva, and Carol Neumann, along with Natalia’s children, Greg and Helen, presented a donation to the shelter from the proceeds of our journal entitled “Honoring Our Veterans – Sharing Their Stories”. MSHV Board President Bob Adams and MSHV Executive Director Anita Dierks accepted on behalf or the shelter. (Photographs by Helen K. Toreev)

The shelter is named in honor of Lcpl. Nicholas Larson (1984-2004)

Honoring Our Veterans is a journal compiled and published by the DuPage Writers Group, NFP, a not-for-profit literary group based in Carol Stream, IL. The book was inspired by a trip to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton, IL and is dedicated to them. A portion of the price of each book will be donated directly to the shelter. No veteran should remain homeless!

The journal contains the stories of veterans from recent wars–World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and the Cold War. Most were written by the veterans themselves, some by family members, and yet others were based on interviews by members of the DuPage Writers Group. Photos, poems, and drawings are included to enrich the stories for our readers. The stories honor the veterans lives, and share their many contributions. We hope they also contributed to the healing and recovery process. We’ve all read about wars in history books, but wars look different when you see them from the unique perspective of the individuals who fought in them and their loved ones who cherish their memories.

The book price is $17 plus $3.00 shipping and it contains 24 unique stories, 7 poems, and many photographs. 40 pages are in color. The ISBN is 978-0-9788419-3-5. Sorry, journal is sold out!!
